I Do Not Love You Except Because I Love You - Poem by Pablo Neruda

I do not love you except because I love you;
I go from loving to not loving you,
From waiting to not waiting for you
My heart moves from cold to fire.

I love you only because it's you the one I love;
I hate you deeply, and hating you
Bend to you, and the measure of my changing love for you
Is that I do not see you but love you blindly.

Maybe January light will consume
My heart with its cruel
Ray, stealing my key to true calm.

In this part of the story I am the one who
Dies, the only one, and I will die of love because I love you,
Because I love you, Love, in fire and blood.

My Heart

That Mississippi chicken shack.
That initial-scarred tabletop,
that tiny little dance floor to the left of the band.
That kiosk at the mall selling caramels and kitsch.
That tollbooth with its white-plastic-gloved worker
handing you your change.
That phone booth with the receiver ripped out.
That dressing room in the fetish boutique,
those curtains and mirrors.
That funhouse, that horror, that soundtrack of screams.
That putti-filled heaven raining gilt from the ceiling.
That haven for truckers, that bottomless cup.
That biome. That wilderness preserve.
That landing strip with no runway lights
where you are aiming your plane,
imagining a voice in the tower,
imagining a tower.

Love in the Morning

Morning’s a new bird stirring against me out of a quiet nest,
coming to flight—
quick-changing, slow-nodding, breath-filling body, life-holding,
waiting, clean as clear water, warmth-given, fire-driven
kindling companion, mystery and mountain, dark-rooted,

When We Share
Poet: Julie Hebert, ©2012

When we share with someone else,
Something valuable to us
You may find out later on,
To them they feel they were

Some of us have lots to give,
And some of us do not.
If someone could benefit,
Why not give them a shot.

Sharing is a wonderful thing,
Especially to those you've shared with.
There are a lot of kind people out there,
And that is not a myth.

So next time you see someone,
Who could benefit from something you can share.
Don't hold back and look away,
Be kind and answer their prayer.

Gentle, Just and Kind
Poet: Edith H. Shank

No tranquilizer can be found
Through any magic art
As fine as that which must abound
Within a peaceful heart.

No drug or dope can take the place
Of peace within the mind,
Of those who have the friendly grace
To be gentle, just, and kind.

Pass This Way
Poet: Author Unknown

Through this toilsome world, alas!
Once and only once I pass;
If a kindness I may show,
If a good deed I may do

To a suffering fellow man,
Let me do it while I can.
No delay, for it is plain
I shall not pass this way again.

Consider the Hammer
Poet: Unknown

Consider the hammer -
It keeps its head.
It doesn't fly off the handle.
It keeps pounding away.
It finds the point, then drives it home.

It looks at the other side, too,
and thus often clinches the matter.
It makes mistakes, but when it does, it starts all over.
It is the only knocker in the world
That does any good.

Never Live
Poet: Unknown

There was a very cautious man
Who never laughed or played
He never risked, he never tried,
He never sang or prayed.
And when he on day passed away,
His insurance was denied,
For since he never really lived,
They claimed he never really died.

"Even if you are on the right track, you wil get run over if you just sit there."

Take The Time
Poet: Unknown

Who learns and learns,
Nor acts on what he knows,
Is one who ploughs and ploughs,
But never takes the time to sow.

They say talk is cheap
It is easy on the street
But to succeed
You must do more than read.

Learn, and read but more important so
Is taking action and then you'll see success flow!

"Most of all, learn to laugh at yourself, meet each day with a sense of humor."
